Meet Our Instructor

Dr. Srinivas Makam
Computer Science & Technology Instructor
Hi! I’m Srinivas. I obtained my PhD in Applied Sciences and Math from Purdue University. For over 20 years, I have been teaching both science and math to junior high, high school and college students. I am deeply passionate about teaching and identifying students’ potential to direct them towards their passion and strengths.
Course Overview
This course begins with an introduction to computers, hardware , world wide web (WWW), and set up. These skills are in high demand in business and can help students to increase their earning potential or secure a better job. Almost 90% of all businesses use Microsoft Office. This class will cover the essentials for success with: Microsoft Word, Excel, power point, python introduction and supports different student needs and lets student proceed at their own pace. This comes as a whole year (2 semesters) course.
MS Word
This course will have students working like a pro with many of the features of MS Word. Students begin with an essential document and learn to apply formatting, fonts, styles, and color. Next, tables, mail merge, collaboration, and document tracking will round out your new skills. Students will move into learning desktop publishing, graphic design, using templates and building blocks, forms, macros and security, and webpage creation and blogs.
MS Excel
In this course, Students will create spreadsheets, apply formatting, and enter formulas in no time. Next, Students will move on to applying themes, working with borders, fonts, and enhancing your worksheet for a professional-looking workbook. Students will move on to learn excel tables, calculations, formula usage, data analysis, and work with tables. Students will gain the knowledge to stand out in the office or job market.
MS PowerPoint
Participants will learn how to create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation Functions covered in this session are how to create a slide, add content (text, graphics, objects and pictures) to present a show. Prerequisite:
Learning Outcomes include Examine slide show presentation concepts and explore the Microsoft Office PowerPoint environment, Create a new presentation, Modify presentation themes, Add and edit text to slides, Add new slides to a presentation, Insert clipart images and shapes to slides, Insert and modify tables and charts, Add sound and video to a slide presentation, Insert and edit animations and slide transitions, Display a speaker-lead and self-running presentation.
Introduction to Python
This course includes an overview of the various tools available for writing and running Python, and gets students coding quickly. It also provides hands-on coding exercises using commonly used data structures, writing custom functions, loops and reading and writing to files.
